“Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life.” Rachel Carson
What a beautiful home we all have, Mother Earth!
Living in a city and having the experience of commuting to and from work every day, I feel that I have lost a little of that “earth sensitivity” that I once intimately knew. It saddens me think of the millions of people who are losing that sensitivity every day! Almost every memory that I have as a child took place outside…Running thru knee-high weeds as I chased my brother at my grandparents farm. Climbing trees to peek at the blue eggs in the robbin’s nest. Digging in the dirt with my brother and neighbors as we tried to make our way to china. These experiences as a child allowed me to feel connections to our mother planet. It was my play ground.
This year as I celebrate Earth Day, I do so by thinking back to those memories that I have stored away. As I reminisce, I make a promise to myself that I will dig more holes outside in the dirt with my son. I will allow my son to chase birds and help him build forts. I will go back to my roots, in Kansas, and see the world thru the eyes of that little girl who instinctively knew that the earth was a part of me and I was a part of her.
Peace and Blessings to all!
